Journey Through A Rose is a series of oil paintings that reveal hidden universes within the being of a rose. Through observation of light in the spaces between young petals, I have discovered entire worlds: pastures and meadows, impressions of familiar silhouettes, nebulas and cosmic beginnings. In the absence of light is a similar expression reminiscent of aging that exposes the intrigue of geological formations and maturing flesh that trades physical vitality for wisdom. Each painting functions to convey the luminous phenomenas I’ve witnessed deep within the crevices of roses. The series demonstrates how nature repeats its patterns across radically different scales, and how curiosity and exploration can lead to unexpected awe within a single bloom. Working exclusively in oils, I recreated these unexpected moments to capture when shadow turns into landscape, when petal becomes horizon, when a rose contains everything - the glow of light through transformative satin mimicking both sunrise and sunset, as the beginning and end of time.
